If your pregnancy test came back positive, your next step is to get an ultrasound! Depending on your individual situation, our center may be able to offer a limited obstetrical ultrasound at no charge.
An ultrasound answers three important questions:
You’ll need the answers to all three before making a decision about your pregnancy outcome. The timing of your pregnancy determines your due date. It also determines the kind of abortion you can have if you’re considering that option.
An ultrasound allows you to examine all variables associated with your pregnancy. If you’re 10 weeks or more into your pregnancy, you aren’t eligible for the abortion pill. If your pregnancy is located outside the uterus, it is ectopic and non-viable. An ectopic pregnancy must be addressed right away by a medical professional to protect your own health.
An ultrasound gives you information about your pregnancy so you can determine the next steps.
This depends on several factors. Although we attempt to do same-day sonograms on the majority of our clients, that is a discussion that will take place between you and the nurse you will visit with during your initial appointment.
When you arrive for your appointment, you will be given a pregnancy test — even if you have had a positive one at home. Once we have your positive pregnancy test, a nurse will then discuss with you when it would be best to have your ultrasound. While it is rare, there are some situations in which we are unable to provide this service.
